Studies to inspire: What does the future of breast cancer localisation look like?
Which recent clinical studies completely changed your approach to breast surgery? We asked three researching pioneers - Prof. Alastair Thompson, Prof. Carol Benn and Dr. Andreas Karakatsanis - to discuss the papers that inspired their careers.
In the first part of this intimate chat, they discuss a JAMA Surgery paper from December 2023, which suggests a new wire-free and non-radioactive approach to lesion localisation and SLNB, that's demonstrating impressive accuracy using only Sentimag technologies.
As one of the key contributors to this paper, Dr. Karakatsanis explains:
- Why he’s predominantly interested in trials that show you can do less to achieve better outcomes.
- How this study proved a complete magnetic approach results in low re-excision rates - in this case less than 3%, on average.
