3 key reasons why physicians worldwide are switching to Magseed

Thousands of surgeons across the world have already made the switch to Magseed, with it currently the only seed technology to be used in over 45 countries.

But what makes Magseed different from the other available wire-free markers?

From the supporting clinical data to the incredible versatility it brings as part of the Sentimag platform, we break down just three of the most common reasons to make the switch…

1. Backed by data

The Magseed® marker is widely proven across an extensive library of published clinical data - more than any other wire–free localisation device.

With over 11,000 patients involved in clinical studies, Magseed is proven to achieve low re-excision rates, improve surgical scheduling and provide a better patient experience.

One of the largest Magseed studies is the iBRA-NET Localisation Study from 2022, at the time the largest comparative study of guidewires vs a wire-free marker.

Data from 2,300 patients showcased the incredible accuracy of Magseed (with a retrieval rate of 99.8%), and a follow-up poster from SABCS 2023 showed how it outperformed all localisation markers for clinician experience.

2. Can’t break. Won’t move.

As demonstrated across vast amounts of clinical data, Magseed can be implanted any time prior to surgery, and unlike other markers you can be confident that it won’t migrate or deactivate (Harvey et al, 2018).

The reliability of that signal means greater accuracy during surgery, which is helping a greater number of patients to now have their cancer removed in just one operation.

A study from Dave et al (2022) concluded that Magseed has the potential to reduce re-excision rates in comparison to the guidewire.

3. Unlock the full seed and tracer platform

Magseed combines perfectly with Magtrace for greater convenience, scheduling and shortened operative times (Pantiora et al, 2023). It’s all possible using just the one Sentimag platform, and just one probe.

Led by Uppsala University, the MagTotal study demonstrates that you can use Magseed for localisation of the lesion to great effect alongside Magtrace for sentinel node removal.

For tumor localisation alone, they reported an impressively low re-excision rate of less than 3% and high clinician satisfaction with the technique.
